With a nip in the air and cool breeze blowing, on the 18th of December – the weather was so pleasant. We hit the right note right from the outset of the Sports Day! AVM Juhu sports ground bore a festive look with blue and white balloon arches, colourful banners and well-marked race tracks welcoming the guests. Parents, siblings and grandparents turned up in large numbers to cheer their wards participating in various sporting events.

The Sports Day started with the auspicious Gayatri Mantra. Hitarth Mahajan, the Games Captain of the Primary Section and Rahil Thakkar,the Head Boy of the Primary Section introduced our young Chief Guest, Master Gurjeev Singh Kohli, a National level Archer and a student of Standard 8, Arya Vidya Mandir School, Bandra (West). Kohli was accompanied by his parents and family members. Ms. Sudha Singh, the corporator of Ward -67, also graced the occasion.
The opening event was the March Past by the students of Std 4, where House-wise contingents marched in gallantly. The Inter House Event was judged by Ms. Bhumika Pillai, Subject Head Pre- Primary AVM,Juhu, Mr. Sudhakar Gavhane, Sports Master, AVM Bandra West and Ms.Annissa D’souza Sports teacher, AVM Bandra East.
Followed by Oath Taking and Torch Ceremonies and felicitation of Special Achievers in Sports, Chief Guest, Kohli declared the Sports Day open.

Keeping in tune with the theme of the Sports Day – “Practice like you’ve never won, Perform like you’ve never lost.” –  smartly turned out in colourful costumes, the students of Standard 1 and 2  participated in fun races like, ‘Hoola hoop run’, ‘Ball and the strainer race’, ‘Book balancing’ and ‘skipping’ races.
Close on their heels were the Challengers and Champions of standards 1 to 4, running the Flat Races and the Inter House Relays winning brownie points for their Houses. Graceful Yoga display by standard 4 students and the robust Punjabi Drill –‘Rooh Punjab Di’ by the students of standard 3, kept the audience entertained.
But it was the Inter House Tug of War that really won the hearts of the onlookers. Pitted in a match of strength, students of standards 3 and 4 tugged at the rope with all their might amidst raucous applause and cheers.
The most awaited event was the prize distribution ceremony in which, the winners were feted with medals and certificates in individual races. Dronacharya house lifted the Tug Of War Trophy, Patanjali house won the coveted trophy for the best March Past at the hands of Principal Mrs.Alka Agrawal. The Chief Guest addressed the audience with his encouraging and inspiring words. The Assistant Head Girl, Anushree Pathrikar, Assistant Head Boy,Rishabh Pawar and the Assistant Games Captain, Debeshwar Mukherjee of the Primary Section gave the Vote of Thanks. Ms. Ashi Soni  from AVM Bandra West and Ms. Serena Virani from AVM Bandra East also attended the Sports Day.
The Overall in charge of the Primary Sports Day were Ms.Priti Parikh and Ms. Namrata Daswani under the able guidance of the Primary Subject Head,  Mrs Shefali Umesh.
The programme was compered by Ms.Sharmila Bagchi and Ms.Priti Parikh.
Sports masters, Mr. Desmond D’souza , Mr.Surendra Yadav and the rest of the primary teachers displayed exemplary team work spirit ensuring flawless management of the event.
