Overall Championship Trophy for AVM Juhu Boys at the Intra AVM Aquatic Meet

On a bright sunny November morning, a squad of 28 swimmers made way to the Khar Gymkhana for the 14th Intra AVM Aquatic Meet. A competition where their stamina, steadfastness and skill would be put to test. From young 7-year-old Prisha Daga who recently accomplished the feat of sea swimming off the Konkan coast to our reigning Under-16 champion, Srish Maulik – it was a team that held great promise.
The Aquatic Meet started with the chanting of Gayatri Mantra and with the blessings of Dr Sabharwal, AVM Management member , Mrs Jyoti Kumar, Director of AVM Schools and the Principal, AVM Bandra West, Mrs Alka Agrawal, Principal AVM Juhu, swimmers from all the three AVM branches – Bandra West, Bandra East and Juhu angled for the coveted trophies. They dived and swam keenly to the finish line – the hearty cheering by their teammates. Students from standard 2 to 10 took part in various events like freestyle, butterfly, breast stroke, backstroke and relay races.
While AVM Juhu boys won the Overall Championship trophy for boys, our girls were runners up in the closely contested competition. AVM Bandra East girls won the Overall Championship trophy for girls.
What made the victory sweeter was the fact that our boys had won the trophy after a gap of 13 years and in recognition of this feat, the winners were felicitated by Principal Ms Alka Agrawal, in the Marwah Hall. The swimmers were also given chocolates by the Principal, the Subject Heads – Ms Smita Sulakhe, Ms Shefali Umesh and the sports masters – Yadav and Desmond Sirs. Ah the sweet smell of success!
